Vintage Unusual Asian Forest lacquered hand painted box from China 1970's

  

This Hand Painted Asian Keepsake Box is unusual in that the Natural Asian Garden Motif painted design is hidden beneath the lacquer deliberately, almost as a subtle understatement of the hand painted design. The Hand Painting completely surrounds the entire Box as well as the top. An overall subtle and darkly painted sturdy Wooden Box with an unusual diamond pattern lining interior. Lining feels like cloth but is not obviously so. Could be a type of patterned felt.

21.5" X 11.5" x 14 H with a subtle almost coffin like designed top. (see photos carefully) Brass snap and pin closure on front and brass handles on sides for carrying are design selection from a bygone era though not of that era. Rear of top of box has contemporary hinges which should probably be replaced for the sake of matching the aesthetic of the other closures and handles. Approximate weight is 8 pounds.
