Antique German ceramic storage box featuring the well-known blue cube decor, attributed to Waechtersbach and associated with designs by Eduard Schweitzer, early 20th century. This piece has a ceramic body and lid enclosed within a solid wood frame, with a brass handle and hinge. A great example of Jugendstil design, showing the transition from Art Nouveau into more geometric, modern forms. Condition is good for age and displays beautifully. The ceramic panels show age-related hairline cracks that have been stabilized with prior repairs. These are primarily located along the back and interior and are not visible from the front when displayed. The structure remains solid and intact. The wood frame shows light wear, patina, and minor scuffs consistent with age. Brass hardware shows natural oxidation. This is a decorative antique piece with strong visual presence and European design appeal.
