Very Rare Limoges JP France Vintage Trinket Box With Raised Cicada Finial Lid

  

Stunning and rare vintage Limoges trinket box featuring a raised cicada finial lid. This 2-piece oval porcelain trinket box is hand-painted with lovely purple flowers and as noted in the title has a raised cicada on top. The lid lies atop the bottom piece - no hinges or latch. Various areas on the trinket box have a gilt edge trim.

There is some minor wear in the paint, especially on the bottom footed legs. Stamped on the bottom J. No chips, cracks or crazing.

The underside edges of the lid does have scuff marks from wear and display. In French art, the cicada (la cigale) is a popular motif, especially with Limoges pieces from this period - approx.
