This charming vintage carved box carries a rich history, showcasing the craftsmanship of skilled artisans from past decades. Perfect as a gift or for yourself. The box has been restored - it was cleaned, treated with a mixture of castor oil and beeswax, and fitted with a fabric lining. It shows signs of wear, scratches, cracks, and beetle holes, but overall it is in very good vintage condition. You can also make this mixture yourself to protect and elasticize the belt.

You will need 5 grams of beeswax and 30 milliliters of castor oil. Melt the wax on a water bath, then add the castor oil, stir until the mass becomes homogeneous.

Then pour into some cone-shaped container to let everything solidify. After a few hours everything will solidify, then you can take out this piece of material and rub them leather belts \ bags, etc. As rubbed with this object, then rub with your hands, the excess can be removed with a woolen cloth, then you need a couple of days to absorb everything.

Only before this procedure, you need to sand the belt, wipe it with an alcohol rag, then rub it down. Before it was treated with oil and wax, the wood had a slightly sweet scent, reminiscent of beeswax. Now it also has a pleasant smell. I cannot say for certain which type of wood it is, but I believe it could be cedar or juniper.

These woods were traditionally used for boxes, as their aroma repels moths and insects. Judging by the number and depth of woodworm tunnels, the wood is at least 40-50 years old.

There is no lacquer or stain - only natural wood. This is typical of folk craftwork from the 1970s, when natural, "living" wood was valued. Most likely, it dates to the 1970s (±10 years, late 1960s to early 1980s). So the box is approximately 40-55 years old. Dimensions: 20 x 7.5 x 8.2 cm / 7.87 x 2.95 x 3.23 in.
